Obituary of Mildred W. McCormick

Monday, October 4, 2010 at age 91. Millie passed to her eternal rest peacefully. Millie is survived by her devoted daughter and son-in-law, Ann and Bill Sweeting of Brockport and her loving son and daughter-in-law, John and Cynthia McCormick of Medina. Memories of her will be cherished by her grandchildren and their spouses, David and Lisa Sweeting and Susie and Bill Armstrong, all of Atlanta, GA, and Scott and Rebecca McCormick of Winston-Salem, NC. Millie will be missed by her 4 wonderful great-grandchildren, Max Sweeting, Ainslie, Liam, and Aiden Armstrong, all of Atlanta, as well as her devoted sister, Dr. Audrey Klick of North Chili. She also will be missed by her nieces and nephews and their families. It is comforting to know that Millie has been reunited with her beloved husband of 70 years, Wilbur "Buck" McCormick, her son, James W. McCormick and her granddaughter, Katie Sweeting, who predeceased her. Millie was born in Canandaigua, NY, in 1918, graduated from Canandaigua Academy and Brockport Normal School (now SUNY Brockport). She was devoted to teaching children at West lrondequoit and Brockport Central Schools. Millie was an active member of Brockport United Methodist Church, SUNY Brockport Alumni Assn, Western Monroe Historical Society, and Lakeside Twig Assn. She enjoyed "Mornings with the Professors" at SUNY Brockport, golfing, playing bridge, and especially, being with her family. At her request, there will be no prior calling hours. Family and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Celebration of Millie's Life on Saturday, October 9, 2010, at the Brockport United Methodist Church, 92 Main Street in Brockport at 2:00 PM. Interment at Lake View Cemetery in Brockport will be private. In lieu of flowers, please consider memorial donations to Lakeside Foundation, 156 West Ave., Brockport, Brockport United Methodist Church, or SUNY Brockport Foundation, 350 New Campus Drive, Brockport (attn Mike Andriatch). Millie's family extends a warm and heartfelt thank you to the staff at Lakeside Beikirch Care Center (Third Floor) and Lakeside Memorial Hospital (Second Floor) for the excellent care given and compassion shown to Millie and her family. Thanks to all friends and volunteers who enhanced Millie's life with smiles and friendly visits.
