Carl J. Zenkert born in Brooklyn, NY passed away on January 29, 2017 in Brockport, NY at home surrounded by his loving family. He is survived by his brother Ken Zenkert, his children; Dawn Zenkert, Robyn (Shelli) Zenkert, Sarah (Geoffrey) Mills, Scott (Katie) Zenkert, his grandchildren; Evan and Aiden Mills, his grand-dog Benjamin Bailey, his niece and nephews (Yvette Schue, Cliff Browning, Kenny Zenkert) and their children, and his best friend, the mother of his children, Kathryn R. Dabney. Carl served a long career in youth ministry, over 25 years as Director of United Methodist camps including; Camp Epworth and Quinipet Camp & Retreat Center of the New York Annual Conference and Manidokan Camp & Retreat Center of the Baltimore-Washington Conference. Carl was well regarded in the United Methodist camping community for his service in youth ministry, shaping the spiritual lives of many. In retirement, Carl enjoyed staying close to home gardening and most of all spending time with his beloved family and his adoring grand-children. Carl led his life by example, in service to God, sharing peace and love. He was a great mentor, teacher, friend, dad, and grandfather. He lived his life selfless, sharing gifts with no strings attached as everyone was regarded as a member of his family. Oh how he will be missed. Services celebrating Carl's life will held at Fowler Funeral Home in Brockport, NY on Saturday, February 4, 2017 at 6pm (calling hours 4 to 6pm) with a celebration following at the family's home. Additional services are in planning stages with family, friends, and staff at Camp Quinipet, Shelter Island, NY and Camp Manidokan, Knoxville, MD later this year. Details will be shared online with the Qunipet and Manidokan community. The family asks that donations be made to the Camp Quinipet Scholarship Fund or Camp Manidokan Scholarship Fund. Scholarships provide financial assistance to campers who would otherwise be unable to attend and enjoy the fun, spiritual growth, and life changes experiences of attending camp.
